About the author
Maxine Davis is a storyteller, visual designer, and world-builder who believes that wonder is worth chasing—and that curiosity is a kind of superpower. She’s the creative force behind Henry Tedward IV, a children’s book series that follows a wide-eyed orange tabby as he explores real cities, uncovers hidden histories, and stumbles into the secret workings of the Department of Wonder.
Whether Henry is meeting jazz musicians in New Orleans, learning about fusion food in Detroit, or encountering misunderstood cryptids in forests and ruins, Maxine’s stories blend rich cultural detail with gentle humor and heartfelt charm. Her work celebrates community, folklore, and the magic of everyday kindness.
Originally from New Mexico and currently based in Nashville, Tennessee, Maxine shares her studio with her real-life muses: two clever cats named Henry and Eloise. When she’s not writing or sketching, she’s usually knee-deep in research rabbit holes or dreaming up the next adventure.
“I’ve always loved imagining what could be. I love telling stories. I love mad-libs. I created characters and worlds since I was little. I love the fantasy and wonder of it all.”
Eloise and Henry are Nashville natives, born and raised in East Nashville.
It’s where murals pop up faster than you can find parking, and everybody’s making something—music, art, ideas that somehow work. It’s a good place for creative people… who like good food, trying new concepts, and exploring your passions.
